Featured Friday: Hakon's Home

Since I started blogging, I've met the most amazing women with some pretty incredible stories about having children. Those who have chosen not to be parents, those who are having babies left and right now, those who are waiting to have a baby and those who are fighting with everything in their being to be parents.

I have a lot of friends who've started a family in the last three years and I love their children. Sometimes my heart aches for those who will seemingly be the best parents a child could ask for, yet they haven't been able to conceive. At this point, I'm happy to say Always an Aunt, never a Mother, but realize the day might come when I feel differently and what if I'm one who isn't able to conceive naturally.

While there are many options for couples who want children {natural conception, in-vitro fertilization, sergeant mother}, today's Featured Friday is about a couple who's choice was adoption. Their blog is Hakon's Home (pronounced Hawkon) and their story, like many other adoptive parents, is emotional, touching and life changing. Hakon is truly the joy of their hearts.

Often times a couple's choice to have a child starts in the heart, Hakon's mom says this:

“Our road to adoption began long ago. Before we met, the desire to adopt was growing in each of us. We never considered financial obstacles a good enough reason to prevent offering our home to a child. We have moved forward in faith that God will provide as He sees fit….”

I imagine any couple wanting to be parents tries to be prepared on every level, yet as I've heard from mom's and dad's everywhere, No one will ever get to the point where everything in your life is perfectly lined up for you to have a child -- What this says to me is when God puts in you the desire to have a child, you do all you can to prepare yourselves on practical levels, but what's left is faith that God will provide the rest. Hakon's parents are doing just that.

The story of Hakon's adoption is best told through their blog... I won't try to replicate it -- If you and your spouse are struggling to be parents, if you simply need some inspiration today or if you're desire has always been to be an adoptive parent and would like to read another's journey... Go read their story. I promise, you will not be disappointed.

I was thinking about just this sort of thing in the shower this morning. My boyfriend has said MANY, MANY times that he would prefer to adopt even above having our own children. I can't wait to look at the blog!

The love that people share when adopting is a beautiful thing. Both the child and the parent adopting are so lucky.

Great post.
