Let It Snow, Let It Snow... you know how it goes

Born in Delaware, raised in South and North Florida and living 10 of my adult years in Pennsylvania, I understand the dynamics of weather -- Really. I do. -- As you may or may not care, I know reside in a small town in North Carolina -- This is where people call their mother's Mama and their dads Papa and their dogs Butch -- Not that there's anything wrong with these terms, I'm just setting the stage --

More stage setting: A clear view of butt cracks on broken down Ford trucks drinking beer at 8:00 a.m. wouldn't be considered odd -- Belk is the largest and most sale anticipated store in our town -- Dairy Queen is considered a restaurant -- Lowe's is where you go for a date and Walmart is the largest hangout in the area -- Seriously.

Setting the stage was important, my friends, so you'd understand why they have shut down every school, every college and every doctors office in town for this:

(no, I do not live on a playground :)

Earlier this week when the weather station was making special reports that the high for the evening was going to be 17 degrees -- While this certainly isn't tanning weather, I chuckled thinking of the irony of it all that I'd just read that MckMama over @ My Charming Kids was experiencing -22 degree weather and live where 2 months out of the year people live on ice --

Last night, our local station literally interrupted our program to announce this Possible 4-6" of snow in **** area of NC -- I'm not even going to comment on that - Oh, wait. I just did. Anyway... Just thought you might be as excited as the folks here in NC we all are about the sprinkle of dust snow --

HAPPY TUESDAY!!

OOh wooowww. Everything closed down for that? Well, enjoy your snow day!

That makes me laugh, honnestly it does. However if a hurricane or worse, a tornado, came out this way I'd FREAK. Actually I have. It's all relative, even weather.

Enjoy your snow day! Georgia does the same thing. If there is a little bit of snow or a little bit of ice, everything is closed. Oh, and people panic and buy all the milk and bread in the grocery store! :)

and I bet they were all wondering how they were going to drive in so much snow... lol

my little town in GA reacts the exact same way! any chance of snow and Publix is packed ... schools will shut down for days. It is hysterical but I won't complain about a day off :)

We've had schools close but for some reason the malls stay open.
Stay snuggly warm with Elly Mae today.

XOXO,

I just moved from coastal NC and it is funny to watch everyone get their panties in a bunch over some snow but not even blink an eye when a hurricane is bearing down on them! But I must say...I really miss my small southern atmosphere and all its quirks.

Haha! And I thought Oklahoma was bad!! So funny :-)

I had to call my husband after reading your post. When the time came for us to move, I told him I wanted somewhere I could enjoy snow. Since moving to the Midwest, we have barely had any snow and it has snowed 2x at Camp Lejeune this winter. I am so bummed :)

Haha - yeah the schools in our area closed down for the low temps of 17 degrees...I am laughing with you even though I have lived here all my life. I still find it humorous.

I lived in smalltown NC for 4 years after growing up and spending most of my adult life in WI. We are now back in WI. We laughed at the panic of that much (your playground picture) snow.

The irony is RIGHT. I nearly peed my pants looking at that DUSTING that caused your city to shut down. I am also relieved to know that you don't live on a playground. For all intents and purposes, however, I DO live in a playground and it's not as bad as you'd think.

You are SUCH a faithful commenter, poster and friend. Coming over here was the LEAST I could do! Thanks for the head's up that I needed to come see this (you were right) and for linking to me!!

Awww...

Lots of love,

MckMama

Hi, I just found your blog. I have lived in NC almost all of my life and I still don't understand the freak-out about snow thing. However, I did love seeing it today. I admit I even squealled like a kid to my husband to get dressed and play in the snow with me at 10am. -Laura

I'm pretty sure we live in the same town...seriously.

All of the school were closed in my NC town today too (actually, every county withing 2 hours drive), and yes, Lowe's is a hot date spot.

Geesh...tools and hardware aren't romantic? I would have never known.

bwahhaha. I totally get what you're talking about. Being a born and raised Texan, they shut the city down when we have freezing weather...not just snow, because we rarely get that stuff. We have idiot drivers and frozen stuff brings out the even bigger idiots!

Stay warm and enjoy your snow day.

I live in a very warm, sunny place, so snow is never seen here! That's amazing to me.

I feel slightly better that it's not just a purely British phenomenon!

haha! I totally know what you mean! I'm used to going to school and work when there's a foot of snow, and I move to the midwest, and all of a sudden they cancel school for less than an inch! :)

I've been reading for awhile but never commented. Love the new music!

Can you tell me how you got you playlist to fit on your sidebar? I changed my layout, and now the playlist spills over. I've taken it off for now, but I miss it!

I forgot to say that I have Unwritten on my playlist..LOVE that song!

Being a Carolina girl (of the SOUTHern variety) transplanted to Indiana, I miss hearing 'ya'll' every day...
And I would KILL for a snow day now!

Being from PA and now living in NC too...the snow days are a joke! Half of my co-workers couldn't make it in because all the schools shut down and they had to stay at home with their kids!! CRAZY...I remember going to school when our heat went out in our house, we stayed in a hotel for 3 days and had to go to school a couple of them. Very different. Glad I am not the only one who feels confused.
