4th Firworks, Fun and Freedom

Mr. Realife's father passed away 2 years ago on the 4th, so we are making it a point to do something in memory of him each year. As you saw here, Mr. Realife and I ventured to DC for the 4th weekend -

What an adventure!! So many things going on and SO many people. While I lived 10 years in the Philadelphia area, I don't seem to remember it ever being so crowded. So... without further ado, here are pix from our weekend.

Our Beautiful Hotel:
The Westin in Downtown Alexandria, VA

We took the Metro everywhere which left us walking
about 12 miles in 2 days - My feet/legs were so sore by Monday,
I could hardly walk from the bed to the bathroom...
I guess wearing flip flops was not smart :)

We, of course, visited our Capital and the Washington Memorial
We also visited the Lincoln Memorial and took pix of
Mr. Realife's our favorite states.

We visited so many museums,
I couldn't even tell you which ones they were.
I do know we loved the museum of American history
and saw Dorthy's red slippers and Archie's chair
where he would discuss political/racial issues with his wife.
Thinking back to that show,
I'm taken aback at some of the content!!

We also visited the Air and Space Museum where we saw
The Write Brother's first plane... Because we live near the OBX,
Mr. Realife loves the whole history of their journey
and how Kitty Hawk, NC is where they flew the first airplane.

The architecture of the buildings overwhelmed us.
The History of American Indians building
was absolutely breathtaking.
We really enjoyed this museum, too.
The truths behind their history are
astonishing and heart breaking.

Probably the most touching event was visiting the
Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Mr. Realife was able to find his
Uncle who died there the year he was born.
Just seeing this wall brought me chills.

This is me being silly...
I got such a kick out of this reflection wall - HA!

Dinner in Alexandria, VA - This town is so incredibly quaint!
Sort of reminded me of Annapolis, MD -- We walked around
and looked at all the shops, but didn't spend nearly the
amount of time I wanted to there... a good reason to go back :)

Just a few other shots from the weekend :)
p.s. -- YES! We watched fireworks...
NO! I didn't get ANY pix of them! UGH!

It looks like it was so much fun. I have never been to DC, but I really hope to some day! I'm actually going to visit Philly soon, but sadly we can't make the trip to DC. Maybe another year.

Also, I agree with Miss HoneyDew - I am still loving the haircut. Super cute and edgy!!!
